We find the cause first, so the crack or stain does not come back through the paint.

Finish levels
How smooth the wall needs to be
Finish levels come from the Gypsum Association standard GA-214; pick by paint and light.

CGC's Sheetrock Mold Tough has a moisture- and mould-resistant core; its Firecode X version is a 5/8 in. Type X panel.

CGC makes Durock as a water-durable tile backer for floors, walls, tub and shower areas.

Drywall questions we hear
Do I need a permit to drywall my basement in Toronto?
Not if the work has no structural or material alterations. Adding or removing a wall does need a permit.
Which finish level do I need under dark or glossy paint?
Level 5: a full Level 4 finish plus a skim coat over the whole wall, so joints and screws do not show.
What goes behind tile in a shower?
Cement board. CGC makes its Durock board as a tile backer for tub and shower areas.
